Review : One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Tittle  : One Hundred Years of Solitude
Author  : Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Publication date : July 1st 2003 by HarperCollins

Again, this may not be the newest book, but since it gave me an amazing experience, I'm going to speak out loud. Just like my previous post of The Famished Road   , I read the translated part of One Hundred Years of Solitude and again, I'm so glad that the translator did a great job.

To tell you the truth, this is the most difficult book I've ever read in my life. It's so heavy and if you're not patient enough, you'd put it down within 10 minutes. It has a great number of characters and sometimes I forgot who was who. This is a story about a family that bred in an unknown place somewhere in Latin America called Macondo. One Hundred Years of Solitude is a book of symbols and metaphors, it took me a great deal of time to really absorb the story.

I read it during a long flight, sometimes it chased away my boredom, sometime it added it even more. I also finished it when I was still on the plane, jaw-dropped! I can't believe it, I kept on saying to myself: "it's all in the genes!"

If you decide to read this book, be warned that One Hundred Years of Solitude is not and easy read AT ALL. The first chapters contains many information which sometimes I found them quite confusing. Stay away from it if you hate literary fiction as if you force yourself, you'd resent yourself. This is one of the best book that I've ever read in my life and I am glad that I picked it. Even though it cost me a lot of time, this book was really worth it.

It is worth my high 5!

Have you read this book? Did you find it confusing?
