Review : Clash of Kings by George R. R. Martin

Tittle : Clash of Kings ( Song of Ice and Fire #2)
Author : George R. R. Martin
Publication date : May 28th 2002 by Bantam

Oh, at last I reached the final page of Clash of Kings. It was indeed one of the longest book I've read and to be honest, it was a little exhausting. It took me more than a month to read it and I'm so ready to take a break. For now, I'd just read smaller and lighter books to clear my mind a little bit and of course prepare myself to the next big "meal".

Westeros is infested by a lot of kings! Joffrey is not the only Protector of The Realm but also a dozen of so called kings claim to be so. The news about the Queen twincest spreads like a wildfire and her brother in law, Stannis is so determined to seize the throne because he believe he is the rightful heir of Robert Baratheon.

Again, as I explained before, you may ignore the description above because the book itself is a much more complex creature. There are some of new characters (not necessarily new, but there isn't any story point of view from them in the first book) and of course it become more interesting. There are so many unpredictable scene and I still have this feeling of "what on Earth are you up to, anyway?" to many of the characters because they are so hard to guess.

I admire Martin's talent of story telling. He is the master of vocabulary! What I love the most about Clash of Kings (and the first book) is that I didn't notice any repetitiveness in the narration. It works so smoothly and I as the reader felt very comfortable.

This book hasn't as much of disturbing scenes (at least in my opinion) but my curiosity remains. I still have no idea of who is the real hero and villain, but it doesn't really bother me. Let them fight, let them feast and see what happens next. Having said that, of course I have favorite character and in this book, it would be Arya. And Tyrion. Gosh, I couldn't pick, I love them both equally. Arya is so strong and brave (even more than Daenarys), and Tyrion, really, you don't need a reason to love him, you just do.

Time for a favorite quote:

“When you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you're only telling the world that you fear what he might say.”

That left me laughing out loud, I must say. As usual, 5 rating for Clash of Kings. This series also ensure me that every bookworm has to have an e-reader. Imagine holding a 800 pages long hard cover version of this book, then you get sleepy and fall asleep and it slips right onto your face, what a damage it can do! That's why I think an e-reader is one of the most useful invention on this universe.

Alright, enough ramblings. Now, your turn! Who's your favorite character of this series?
