After being left impressed by The Peach Keeper (see my review here), I ensured my self to find more books from Sarah Addison Allen. I just love her writing style, she knows how to work on simple, yet magical stories. Does this also apply on Garden Spells? Well, let me tell you a little about the book, first *winks*
In Bascom, North Carolina, the women from Waverley family were well known of their unique magical gift. 34 year old caterer Claire Waverley lived in peace with her magical garden. One day out of the blue her long lost sister came home along with her little daughter. Claire's life was never the same again.
What comes to you mind when you heard a magical garden? A garden where there are a lot of gnomes and fairies? Well, this one is quite different. There were no gnomes nor fairies, Claire's garden only consisted of an apple tree and flowers. Yet, it's still magical. This is what I love the most about Garden Spells. The plot is actually pretty simple, however Allen managed to bring out the best of it. It has the right amount of magic, humor and mystery.
The book itself is not that thick (less than 300 pages), but it told the whole story very well. In my opinion, the pace is perfect and the ending, oh, I can't believe how sweet it is! And since each character of the family had a unique gift, you'd be wondering what they were going to do next with their skill. It is very heartwarming and easy read, but still it is meaningful and really worth my time.
Now, time for favorite quote:
“You are who you are, whether you like it or not, so why not like it?”
5 rating for Garden Spells. I recommend this book for chicklit and romance lovers and ahem, fantasy readers. If you are a little bit tired of reading a story about fantasy land the this is the right book because it takes you to the real world for a while without leaving the magic behind.
Now, your turn. Which Sarah Addison Allen's book you like the most?
