Tittle : Saving June
Author : Hannah Harrington
Publication date : November 22, 2011 by Harlequin Teen
It took me many days to finish reading this book and there are may reasons why. First, I was sent for a business trip and whether I like it or not, I had to stop reading. Second, honestly, Saving June is not really a page turner.
Harper Scott's sister, June died of a suicide which made her loved ones devastated. Since June wanted to go to California so bad, Harper and her best friend Laney went on a road trip to scatter her ashes there, in June's dream city. Quite a noble act, if you ask me.
The story itself is quite adventurous with lots of emotional detail. This is not a happy book, instead it portrays how hard it is to cope after death of a loved one. Saving June contains profanity which make me a little uncomfortable. An underage teenage smoke and drink also left me feel disturbed. I personally don't agree with those behaviors and to be honest, this book made me frown quite a few times.
Also, I couldn't love the characters. Harper, for example. There are numerous times where she is described as stubborn, "you can't tell me what to do" kind of girl, but I just couldn't believe it. And she's just annoying! Yeah, I finally said it. I know she has just lost her beloved sister, but it doesn't mean that she can treat people (especially those who help her) like dirt. She's just not a likable character.
I have to say that this may not be the best young adult book that I have read, however still, I found the story to be nice enough. Too many books are about back-stabbing girls who lust for the same guy already, so reading a story about friendship and love is refreshing. 2 rating for Saving June.
Have you read this novel? Did you like it?

But still it looks like a quite read. :D
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a touching story, however, as you go on reading, you'll notice that it's not as interesting as the synopsis.
DeleteIt's too bad that this book is a disappointment. This book is actually on top of my to-read list, but after reading your review, I think I would put it aside for awhile.
ReplyDeleteHilda, the best judge for books would be your self :) Go on read it, if you want, who knows you'll love it.
Deleteudah beberapa bulan niat baca buku ini, tapi karena sepertinya buku ini bakal sedih makanya diundur terus...
Deletetokoh ceweknya agak menyebalkan ya? aihhh... makin dipotong antrian ama buku lain nih :)
Sedih-sedih amat sih nggak juga mbak, tapi memang bukan cerita hepi-hepi hehehe.
DeleteMenurut saya sih iya, agak nyebelin. Kesannya kayak nggak tau terima kasih, udah ditolongin masih aja jutek.
