I am a fan of Greek mythology and when I found out that Destined is a retelling of the tale of Psyche and Eros, I kept telling myself that I have to read this book. I personally find that reading a retelling story is interesting
because we get to know the author's creativity in adding more story without ruining the existing tale.

Psyche was the most beautiful girl in Greek. So many suitors wanted to make her theirs. One day she was approached by Aphrodite who asked her to marry her son, Eros. Both Psyche and Eros didn't like the idea and it made Aphrodite furious. She then decided to give Psyche a dark future by matching her to a monster instead. Eros suddenly changed his mind. He fell in love with Psyche and he just wanted spend his life with her, even if that means denying his mother's wish.
I enjoyed reading Destined. I find the book to be very enjoyable. The famous tale of Psyche and Eros is retold in a more juvenile manner. Having said that, I didn't find it to be too "immature". The story is a dual POV, so you get to know Psyche and Eros point of view, which is fun. I like it when the author add more plot because honestly, I didn't really know the detail of this legend. All I know is Psyche and Eros were lovers. I wasn't aware that they got so many problems in their relationship caused by Aphrodite. This retelling somehow make it more interesting.
Having said that, I did find some odd things in this book. First, there's a scene where Psyche was eating cheese cake. Since this is a very ancient story, I wonder if they already invented cheese cake back then. The term migraine was also used. It's a modern medical term, right? Do they really say migraine in those days? Quite weird, I guess. Still, I still find Destined to be a fun read. It's light and easy, but memorable and impressive. I give 4 rating for this book.
Have you read it? Do you like Greek mythology too?
