The Neverending Ebook vs Paper Book

Seriously, does anyone get tired of this question? I have to admit it, I do. First of all, I think that question is quite silly to begin with. Why? Because as an official bookworm, I personally hate to choose between the two. It's like "which one do you prefer : peach pie or apple pie?" C'mon! Do I really have to choose? I love both of them for Heaven's sake! As a fruit pie lover, one could care less about the stuffing, as long as it is fruit, right?

Oh well.

One day, when I was still a member of my country's book blogger community, there was a link that was shared on Facebook. It was like "what would happen if a book store become extinct". Well, I just wrote my opinions on the comment area and then I got attacked.

Harshly!

Simply because I said it's not going to happen and I love an e-reader. I believe no matter how popular e-reader is, it will not totally erase paper books from this universe. Both format has its own market and lovers. They are equally popular and we as the bookworms are one who would benefit from it!

Was I in the wrong? What's so uncool about loving an e-reader and ebooks? Let's face it, it's just how technology works. There are too many campaign where paper book lovers criticizing ebook lovers because they think paper books are just better because they smell so good. Well, books are meant to be read, not to be sniff at, I think. If I feel like sniffing at something, it wouldn't be books. Vanilla cookies smells a lot better than paper!

With ebooks you don't have to worry about reading a heavy and thick book like Game of Thrones for example.

Look at how chubby they are. Imagine you are reading this book, hardcover version while laying down and then you get tired, sleepy and the suddenly bang! That big fat tome falls right onto your face. Not cool, right? That's why some people choose ebook, including me. They're convenient and so much lighter (and I personally think that e-reader is one of the greatest invention ever!)

It's called technology. People keep in inventing things that they think would be helpful. It's just part of life, actually and paper book fan should just accept it. Take a snail mail, for example. Do you still write a letter to say hello to your Aunt Doris? People rarely send letters these days, why? Because there's email. They're so much faster and easier. The same thing goes for ebook. Why are ebook lovers criticized because their fondness of the format? Is it because e-reader looks less nerdy?

So, bookworms, chill out. Each of us has our own preference and none of us are better than the other. Book worms should never criticize each other as well. Both formats are cool, trust me! Let's say you're waiting in a long line to get your favorite author's autograph. Nope, you can't ask him/her to sign your e-reader which is a shame (unless they invent an e-reader which can collect authors signature). Well, with paper book it would only take a few seconds to get it.

Can't wait to read a book that's on your wish list? If you buy an ebook, you'd get access to it instantly. See, both has its own advantage! And none of them is perfect enough to eliminate the other. I surely hope that this argument between ebook lovers and paper book fan will subside soon because I think the whole argument pointless. Let's  just keep reading because that's in our job description as a bookworm and enjoy books, no matter what format they are.

And nope, I'm not going to ask you which format you prefer. Like I care! *winks*
