Tittle : A Thousand Splendid Suns
Author : Khaled Hosseini
Publication date : May 22nd 2007 by Riverhead
I admit that I picked up this book because of the hype. I didn't read Hosseini's novel in order, though. This caught my attention, so I read this first instead of The Kite Runner. This book is about a the women's life in Afghanistan, to sum it up, this is the saddest book I've ever read in my life. I have read many sad books before, but none made me cry a river. Well, this book did.
Khaled Hosseini is such a wonderful author that he always picks the right words to break his readers heart. Two unlucky women, different ages, different generations ended up with the same ruthless man who treated them like dirt. A serial of unfortunate events kept on coming. This book is not about oppressed women, it's about finding a hope in a place where it seemed impossible to find.
After reading it, I feel like I am one of the luckiest women on Earth and I am a more grateful person because of this book (yeah right!).
A Thousand Splendid Suns to me, is a must read, even if you don't like historical fiction. However, if you don't like a sad book, this book may not be right for your because it's no way a happy story to begin with. I don't like sad books, however sometimes we need something different. It dried my tears, but I don't regret reading every single page of it.
As for the rating, A Thousand Splendid Suns is really worth the high 5
