Review : After You by Jojo Moyes

Title : After You (Me Before you #2)
Author : Jojo Moyes
Publication date : September 29th 2015 by Penguin Publishing Group

So, who doesn't know about Me Before You. Those of you who love chick-lit and romance must be familiar with Moyes' work. Well, since I am quite a newcomer in this particular genre, I have admit I haven't read all her work, however, in order to be like a cool romance reader, I am glad to tell you that the first book is on my "read" list already!

Many people couldn't move on from Me Before You ending. I find it very impressive, memorable and touching too. So, of course I wanted to continue reading the story of Louisa Clark and I wondered what it is that was worth another book since the author herself never planned it to be a series.

Louisa Clark finally moved to a new place. She traveled, as Will insisted, looked for a new experience, but she couldn't get herself motivated. She wasn't in good condition mentally. It caused her an eye-opening accident which led her to go to support group to help her continue living her life without this emotional burden. No, I am not telling you what the emotional burden is since it would be a huge big fat spoiler, if you haven't read book one.

After You is a book about moving on and healing one's self. I have this auto-cynical mode whenever reading a sequel (especially an unplanned one), so to be frank, I didn't expect much of this  book. The good news is, After You is much better than I expected and I am even confident enough to say that it's as good as the first one. So, if the first book ends with a tear, this one will give you a hug. It's a good closing to a very lovable story. Ah, and Louisa can be witty too, even when she's so troubled :

"Sometimes more. Now, if you wouldn't mind, I really have to get back. It's not good for me to be seen coming out of the men's loos too often."

Moyes also introduces a new character, Lily, daughter of someone from Louisa's past. A teenager, with her typical teenager attitude. First impression, I thought she was just going to ruin the story, but since my expectation is quite low, it didn't really bother me. It turned out that Lily is very interesting, very human, if I may add, she's not just a typical naughty teenagers, she's a welcome addition to the story, although she did had some attitude.

"You're a loser. Worse than that you're a loser who thinks you can tell other people what to do. And who gives you the right? You sat at my dad's bedside and you watched him die and and you did nothing about it. Nothing! So I hardly think you're any great judge of how to behave."
5 rating for After You. Another 5 rating for the whole series. It is a must read book for you romance lover, or you, who are looking for something that allows you to sit back and sigh. Lovely books, grab them now.  Oh, while you're here, why not watch this trailer of Me Before You. It's Emilia Clarke, ladies and gentleman! I am so excited, I am so going to watch this movie!

How about you? Are you interested in seeing this movie, too? Have you read other works of Jojo Moyes?
