How to Play with Goodreads when You're Bored

Do you have a Goodreads account? I am sure most of you do. It's a must have for us book lovers. As I get older, it's getting rarer and rarer for me to feel bored. I believe it's a good thing. Well, I don't have enough time to be bored, anyway (because if I do, I'd rather use it to take a nap).

Don't feel like reading nor writing a blog post? Well, now we're talking. To be honest, this darn thing strikes me often. Sometimes I am so not in the mood to read (especially after finding a lame book or if  I'm distracted by movies) and don't have enough inspiration (read : energy) to write a blog post. The more tired you are, the dumber you (can) become. So, instead of feeling sorry for my self, why not play with Goodreads?

Stalk authors and post a question for them
Well, many authors love answering questions from their readers. I love this feature on Goodreads where you can send your favorite authors some questions. Don't be disappointed if yours is not answered. Most writers are very busy, anyway but if this can chase your boredom away, do it! Here's what I did, the awesome author actually replied, Yay!

Trim the to-read list (or in my case, create one)
A mile long to-read list is a common phenomenon in bookish world. To make it more realistic, a trim sometimes is necessary. Take a look at yours and the books you've added. As time goes by, your reading preference may change. Does your current to-read list reflect your taste? If not, delete the books that don't interest you anymore. Unlike many of you, I didn't have a to-read list. I'd just pick whichever book catches my interest. The problem is, there are tons of books that look interesting and I am a sucker in making decision. So, there would be wasted time that I stopped reading because I could not make up my mind. Now, I finally utilize my to-read list to its full potential and I love how it helps me more organized in reading.

Update your reviews
Have you put a link back to your blog on that review? If not, go ahead and post it. It's one more open door to a new visitor. You'll just never know. This is on my to-do list as well, anyway. There are many books on my "read" list that only have star ratings with no explanation whatsoever. I kind of dislike it, it makes me looks lazy. Well, I am lazy, but the world doesn't need to know that, sshhh...

Search for your favorite childhood books
Animorphs, Goosebumps, The Babysitters Club, anyone? Gosh, my age is showing! Well, this one is not that productive, to be honest. If you're longing for some nostalgic moments, this could be fun. I do this sometimes and I often find that some authors are still churning new books. If you loved what you read, it only make sense to add their newer books into your to-read list.

I'd like to know about you. What do you do to chase the boredom away? How do you utilize your Goodreads account?

This post spoke to me so much! As you know I’ve been in a slumpy mood lately so this post was definitely what I needed right now XD. And while I use Goodreads fairly regularly, there are features I tend not to use much, so reading this post was a fun way to be introduced to new ideas as to how to use Goodreads.

Thank you so much, Soudha. Hope your slump will go away soon, and I wish you luck on your new venture :D Moving abroad? Ain't that exciting?
Enter the Goodreads Giveaway!!! It's fun, and I think I'm pretty lucky because I've won twice there. Haha.
And also, I usually browse the "READERS ALSO ENJOYED" of my "Currently Reading" page. I love finding new books with intriguing blurbs and reading other members' reviews. Oh! I also enjoy reading reviews which contain lots of funny gifs!

Lucky you, Nana! I've won only once which is so quite surprising because I have never won anything in my life before. I also love the recommendation page, I find staring at pretty covers to be strangely relaxing
Oh this has been a great post ! I should seriously consider trimming my to-read list. :D I enter giveaways in a row when I'm bored and the books get added to my to-read list automatically.

I shall definitely start asking questions to the Goodreads authors, especially since I love it when someone leaves a question for me. :)

Giveaway indeed a fun thing to participate. I have this unlucky hex on my soul, I almost never won anything in my life, maybe that's why I sometimes avoid it like a plague :D
