Let's Talk about Reading Snacks

I am not a big eater which is quite obvious especially if you meet me in person. I am petite and on thin side. Those lovely food pictures on cooking blog aren't enough to make my mouth water. Heck, it's not easy to make my mouth water. I made my parents worry back when I was a child, now as an adult, I make my husband worry. The fact is, my appetite is very small and when I was pregnant with my daughters, it started to worry me too.

I was afraid of not eating enough and ended up with low birth weight babies (even low birth weight could be cause by various factors, but still). Thankfully, my daughters are fine and they were on the big babies size and it was a real relief for me. I ate enough, after all and it was like an epiphany that it is all right not to have an appetite like a buffalo.

However, recently I find out that I can't concentrate on reading if there's no snack beside me.

My right hand would automatically search for food and if it couldn't find it, I would be kind of irritated, confused and walk straight to the refrigerator (or in case of chips, I'd search for the jar). I am not sure why but chewing food helps me concentrate better and it also (temporarily) improves my reading speed.

And the best thing is, it keeps sleepiness at bay! How cool is that?

Sometimes a book can turn one into a totally different person and I believe this is it. Books help my eating mood, which is a good thing because I actually wish to gain more weight. The problem is, choosing healthy snack is a challenge for me. I eat wafers, cookies, chips and chocolate. Not healthy and it wouldn't benefit me in the long run. Now, I am switching to fruits like apples, grapes or dairy products like yogurt. It is a learning curve, I am a sweet tooth and I still crave those chocolate and candies from time to time.

How about you? Do you eat snack while reading? Tell us about your favorite and if you have any ideas or tips for healthy reading snack, I'd love to hear it too!
