Alright, my dearest readers, it's time for the review of the last book of The Bartimaeus Trilogy. Just so you know this book successfully made me in tears when I reach the last page. It is full of emotion, until now I wasn't sure if it was happiness or sadness because it was a mixture of everything. This book also ensured me that it's one of the most underrated series ever!. Sad, but true. I wonder why they haven't make it into movie yet while the so so books hit are on screen already.
Kitty Jones has learned some magic and now she can summon Bartimaeus. Nathaniel in the other hand, turns into a more and more self centered jerk. He keeps on abusing Barty by giving him task non stop without allowing him to return to the other world to rejuvenate himself. That makes Barty weaker and weaker, but Nat just doesn't care. The government's safety is at stake once again and Nathaniel has no other choice other than to enslave Bartimaeus. Oh, this book also tells a lot about Bartimaeus history, mind you, they're very heart touching, so prepare a box of tissue or two.
Ptolemy's Gate is one of the book with the best endings ever! I mean, it's all ended, everything is done no unfinished monkey business, nada! I love to love it! This is a great example on how a series should end. Nathaniel may be a character I love to hate, but I like the way he develops during the story. Kitty is an adorable heroine! I mean, I doubted her during the first two books, I thought she would never learn magic, because that's just not her. She doesn't like the magicians after all, but there's this strong emotion within her because she actually cares about Bartimaeus really makes her even more lovable.
The good news is, Ptolemy's Gate has more of Barty's narration. Yes, I know the second book was a bit too serious and lack of Barty's touch, but with this one, you'll certainly pampered with his wit. Take a look at this quote:
“Much has happened since last we met, Bartimaeus," he went on. "Do you remember how we parted?"
"No." I did.
"You set light to me, old friend. Struck a match and left me burning in a copse."
The crow shifted uneasily beneath the cleaver."That's a gesture of endearment in some cultures. Some hug, some kiss, some set each other on fire in small patches of woodland...”
Since this is a very positive review, I'd just keep it short. I don't have anything else to write about other than the praises. And this post has enough of them in it, I guess. Easy high 5 rating for Ptolemy's Gate. If you are a beginner in reading fantasy, please, please give this series a chance. No vampires, I promise you, just a witty djinn ! *winks* And, ugh! They should film it, for Heaven's sake!
Now your turn, how do you feel about then ending?
