The first time I saw the cover of Thief's Covenant , it left me giggled. It reminds me of my younger days when I played a lot of video games. Seeing a heroine hanging on the ceiling while searching for artifact like that sure made me think of Lara Croft. Yes, Tomb Raider is my all time favorite video game. That game then of course became my motivation of reading this book. Quite weird, huh?
This is a story about a girl called Widdershins, a thief who becomes an aristocrat and turns thief again. She is then held responsible for a crime she didn't commit forcing her to roam across the town to find out the truth. As facts comes pieces by pieces, she knows that there's a big conspiracy happening and she's made as a scapegoat. Now, with the help of her mythical guardian god, Olgun, she has to do all she can to save her life.
I cannot wait to tell you that this is a very enjoyable book. It's full of adventure and I was running out of my breath catching up with it because it ran so fast! In one page, I was picturing a girl doing some maneuver and within minutes she was already on the ground, wounded but then she got up to do her some more stuffs. This book is full of action and it couldn't be better!
Widdershins is also a very likeable character. She's funny and wit. She has her own weaknesses, but she has a big courage to stand on what she believes. And unlike the typical YA novels, she's not trapped in a love triangle and I find it to be refreshing!
I have to admit that the conflict in Thief's Covenant is a bit complicated for a YA novel. The description is also wordy, but I personally don't think it's a problem. It is indeed a good book for those who looks for something different in YA novel. As for the ratings, I wholeheartedly give it 4.
