What I Learned About Reading and Fasting on Ramadan

Hello folks, great to see you again. Ramadan has just ended, Eid had come and now I'm back with my usual activity (a lot of them are boring routines, mind you). So, fasting doesn't really affect my overall activity nor significantly lower my stamina. I did my work task as usual, took care of the kids as and everything, I can't say it made me weaker.

I also read during Ramadan, but this one, my friends, is a different story. I only managed to finish 2 books the whole month. This is lesser than usual, because I finish about 4 or 5 books on average in a month. Why? Because fasting makes me sleepier. I could read book for about 10 minutes and then... snooze. Quite funny because I didn't feel sleepy at work and it turned out that my task were easier than reading since no concentration nor comprehension needed. Oh, how I believe that reading is one of the easiest hobby ever, but I was wrong.

So, what I did instead? I watched tons of movies, which is actually very unlikely of me, because I couldn't stand watching many movies before and what makes binge watching so fun is beyond me. Don't get me wrong, I love movies however the thoughts of staring at the screen all day long doesn't interest me. So, since I couldn't entertain myself effectively with books while fasting, I asked my husband to take me to the cinema and when I was home, I continued to watch more movies. See, I wasn't being myself!

That is also why it took me almost a month to finish reading Eragon. See, that book wasn't difficult, to be honest, but heck! For the life of me I just could not be alert enough to proceed. I need to munch snack while reading  and I couldn't do it while fasting. It's weird that some silly snack can either make or break your reading routine.

I used to think that books are so much easier than movies because with movies, you have to turn on your TV first or in case of watching in cinema, you need to take a trip to go there, but that is not always the case. Now I get it why some people give up reading and convert to a movie lover. Movies are quick entertainer. Everything is visual, you don't really need a lot of your own imagination to understand the story, everything is already there, being spoon-fed to you.

So, how about you? Which do you find easier, movies or books? I love both, they're cool on their own ways. You think so, too?
