Hey, folks! Great to see you again. It has been a while since I write a blog post. Well, this early 2016 is not good for me in terms of bookish stuff. I am suffering from acute reading slump which caused by the lack of energy. Well, as you get older, you'll see that you're not as fit as you used to be. It's hard to swallow, but it's unavoidable. So yeah, I'd just have to accept it.
The last three months has turned me into a stone and/or a cow. Or a stone cow. I am so in need of entertainment to cool my self down. My day job is a never-ending task and it has taken its toll on me, I need a breather. I am in a phase where I need to scream, but then I thought I am too old to throw a tantrum. If you have any easy ideas on how let go off steam, do let me know. I really need it! All right, enough negativity, here are some things I learn after having a long reading slump:
If you wait too long, you'll lose interest
Pretty obvious. The longer you wait to pick up your book, the less interesting it becomes. A less interesting book will make you forget that you're once a reader. This what happens to me. Gosh, I have a Kindle in my handbag, when did I buy it?
It could be caused by the current book you're reading
Heck yes! This happens to me, too. In fact, it my case, it was cause by a very pretty book. It rambles round and round and all I remembered is it's a book about .... well, something. What happened? Geez, don't ask me, dude. I don't know! If this happens to you, get rid of the culprit ASAP or see list #1.
You'll face it sooner or later
Buy tons of apples and you will face bad ones. Read tons of books, and you'll get to met the lame ones. It's unavoidable. It's part of reading life. I am kind of grateful for this, actually. Lame books makes me grumpy BUT it gives me an excuse to be a cow. Sometimes being a cow is fun, you know, but you have to have a good reason to be one. A lame book is a good excuse, if you ask me. Just don't do it too long or else you'll forget how to be human again.
It has no cure other than to stay away or change your book
Sounds simple, doesn't it? Well, not really, especially if you're those cool fellas who ALWAYS finish what they started. Even when they start reading lame books. To me, both are equally not fun, but at least putting down a lame book is a much less painful. I don't know about you guys, if that book is slowing you down, put it down. There's no other effective method except this. Sad but true.
So, those are what I learned from my reading slump. Now, I'd like to hear from you! How often do you get visited by reading slump? What's the thing you find effective to keep it at bay? Please share!
