Time for a romance read! Ugh, not really. I didn't know this was a romance book until I reached further into it. I picked this one because it set in 1940s of Burma. Sounds like an exotic read, doesn't it? I also thought the cover looks so artistic (again!). Seriously, I'd love to hang it on my wall.
After her father's disappearance, Julia Win decided to go to Burma and find out more about her father's past. The reason why he left his family was a mystery. Julia along with local Burma man, U Ba found bits and pieces about his father's past and discover a love story of her father, Tin Win and a woman named Mi Mi.
Gosh, I can't be excited enough to tell you this! The Art of Hearing Heartbeats is the most beautiful love story I have ever read in my entire life. I even have this question in my mind, if love such as this really exists. I'd love to believe it does. The jargon of this book "love to move mountain" (which reminds me of Bon Jovi's song) really reflects my feelings towards it. Not only it moves mountain, The Art of Hearing Heartbeats also made me proud enough to say out loud that I am now a reader of romance.
There I said it.
During his younger years, Tin Win lost his eyesight because of early cataract. To compensate the loss, he learned to sharpen his hearing, until one day he acquired a gift to hear heart beats, and it led him to Mi Mi who was a cripple. I can't tell you much because I am afraid I will spoil the story and you don't want that. Tin Win and Mi Mi are lovely couple, I adore both of them.
Despite of his burden, Tin Win walked perfectly upright. He was not lugging Mi Mi. He carried her like a gift, happily and proudly. She sat on his back, singing or whispering in his ear.
Now that's what I call a cute love story. I am speechless actually, so I am going to keep this review short. It is unlike other books I've read, it's totally an eye-opening and breath-taking experience. Why Hollywood is yet to make this into movie, I have no idea. One thing I know for sure that this extremely underrated novel is far better than Twilight (yep, I am comparing apples to peanuts, but you get the idea).
He expected nothing because there was nothing of importance he had not already experienced. He possessed all the happiness a person could find. He loved and was loved. Unconditionally.5 rating for The Art of Hearing Heartbeats. I strongly recommend this to you romance haters. This book might, nope, it will change your mind. Romance is a worthy read too! And to you, romance lovers, go ahead grab it, it's that good, I promise! So what have you been reading lately? What's your favorite romance book so far?
