Author : Jonathan Stroud
Publication date: November 2010 by Hyperion
I just cannot describe how much I miss Bartimaeus. I read the trilogy a few years ago and I was very impressed with the world that Stroud built. I was saddened because of the fact that it has to end. I want some more of Barty's adventure and I believe that I just can't get enough.
The day I found out that the series have a prequel, I was excited. I still remember how my eyes popped and my mouth said "how I miss you so much!". Gosh, till now I still can't believe that I said it for a "mere" book! I though I would never read about Barty's adventure anymore after the trilogy ended, but I was wrong.
This time, the story is set thousands of years ago, during the Solomon's era. Bartimaeus the djinni was enslaved by a cruel magician, Khaba who wish for Solomon's ring for his own good. He didn't like his master and resent his enslavement so he somehow always found a way to test his master's limit. That attitude enraged Khaba's and he made Bartimaeus stay in an enchanted bottle where he would never be able to escape.
Bartimaeus: The Ring of Solomon is a fast paced adventure and a very fun read. The readers are still served with the witty footnotes which always make me giggle. This time the story line is less political compared to the previous trilogy, so it's relatively an easier read. I am glad that Bartimaeus had the same sense of humor, even thousands of years ago!
The downside of this book is the ending is a little predictable. I wish Stroud makes the plot to be more difficult to guess. If only it were a little bit more complex, Bartimaeus: The Ring of Solomon would be a an awesome read! Still, I cannot lie that I enjoyed this book very much. I hope Stroud will write more books about Bartimaues, because I think we as the true fans of Barty, will never have too much of him *winks*.
4 rating for this book!
