Review : Exiled by RaShelle Workman

Tittle  : Exiled (Immortal Essence #1)
Author  : RaShelle Workman
Publication date : October 3rd 2011 by Polished Pen Press in cooperation with Literary Underground

I have been wanting to read Exiled for a while. For thousands times, I was trapped in the beauty of a book cover. I mean, look at it! Isn't it look lovely? I love butterflies and I like how they fill the girl's image. It's so cute and it looks futuristic. What a hot combo!

Yes, I only like the cover, that's all. As for the story, I have a mixed feeling for it. A sixteen year old Kelari Princess named Venus wanted to be an immortal. She was commanded by the Gods to help a boy finding his soul mate. She only got 7 days or the Earth atmosphere would kill her. Do I care if Venus dies? Nope, I don't. Why? Because she's not an interesting character to begin with.

The plot is boring and I couldn't get to it. There is very less description about Venus' world and I was left confused. I mean, the book mentioned Kelari, irrihunter, Formithian and other "foreign" words, but there's not much details about them. I know how Kelari looked like, they look the same with silver hair, pale skin until they become immortal, but that's it. I didn't know how Formithian and irrihunter look like, what they can do etc.

Not until I reached chapter forty something. It was devastating for me to wait that long.

The plot is actually interesting, however the scenes aren't fit together which makes a simple story to be too complicated to understand. I mean, if the story focus more about the main idea of this book, it would be very interesting. There are too much filler in it, which makes Exiled to be longer than necessary. I just don't like it when we the readers are given the important details when the story is almost over. What if some of us are not that patient?

Now as for the dialogues, I found some of them to be a bit awkward. Take a look at this:

“Fabu? L.O.L., V. What? Were you born in like, 1968?”
It's a conversation through a phone. Do we really say LOL? I don't think so, it's more like a text message sentence, right?

Now, I give 1 rating for  Exiled. If only some descriptions and scenes are in more chronological order, this book would be a LOT better. I like the idea, it's unique and fresh. I admit there are too many vampire stories out there nowadays, and this novel is refreshing.

Did you read this book?
